Product Designer, Microsoft Hardware
Hardware interaction design and software user interface design of a digital pen that captures what you write. This innovative input device bridged the gap between analog writing and digital capture.
The digital pen was an innovative input device that allowed users to write naturally on paper while simultaneously capturing their handwriting digitally. This required careful consideration of both the physical product design and the software experience.
The challenge was to create a seamless experience where users could focus on writing naturally without being distracted by the technology, while still getting the benefits of digital capture and organization.
My role encompassed both the hardware interaction design—ensuring the pen felt natural and intuitive to use—and the software user interface design for capturing, organizing, and utilizing the digitized handwriting.
"Daan and I worked with product planning, engineering, and project management to define ground-breaking technology development for digital ink and paper. Daan was instrumental in leading the design effort, creating numerous concepts for user research that were of exemplary quality and on time. Daan was creative and skilled not only in the creation of the concepts yet also in their content, including many of his insights that influenced this fuzzy front-end of the product development process."
